When I first started dealing with all of the tax return problems in this course by hand, I really, really missed software. It’s nice to answer a few questions, do a little data entry and just watch completed forms pop out of the other end. However, I never really thought too much about how much the software was doing for me. While software can be extremely helpful, it’s important to know what’s going on underneath the hood. I feel confident that I could look over all of the forms the software has generated and be able to catch any errors or oddities. While I was already pretty familiar with basic tax principles, I hadn’t spent a whole lot of time with individual forms until now. Since I don’t really specialize in tax preparation, it just isn’t something I deal with regularly. This why continuing education is great though because I get opportunities like this course to brush up on any areas I might not get to be in contact with on a regular basis. This course has really allowed me to spend a lot of hands on time with various forms, instructions, and publications and has helped me to become a more well-rounded accountant. I actually look forward to filling out tax returns, because I feel like I know where things should go and if I don’t know where something should go then I know where to look. That’s a great feeling and would not be possible without all the hands on activities this course has you do.
